National Skills Competition

The students, from Tameside College in Ashton Under Lyne, have studied on the  Food and Hospitality Supervision programme. The students competed and secured silver medals in the semi-final stage of the World Skills UK Front of House Competition, hoping to secure their place in the final to be held in Birmingham in November. If successful they will represent the UK in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

Students, Zac Wolfe and Jordan Philburn firstly competed in the Glasgow heat which saw them get through to the semi-final stage which was held at Colchester. The two went head to head with seven students from other colleges where they secured their place in the Birmingham finals. They both received silver medals from Craft Guild of Chefs, by showing their skills in table layout, making crepe suzette and preparing coffees to gain their medals.

Zac and Jordan have shown their passion for the industry and their determination in the competition, which will now become tougher in the final selection in Birmingham, as they will have to carve duck at the table, slice smoke salmon and serve customers in the final setting as well as demonstrating other high end hospitality skills.

John Holden, Hospitality tutor at Tameside College who has been supporting Zac and Jordan said; “Both Zac and Jordan have amazed me with their abilities and have done me and the College proud. Their medals show that their achievements are recognised in the industry and I’m sure they will both agree that the Food and Hospitality Supervision course at Tameside College has helped them tremendously along the way. The boys need to keep up the good work and one of them hopefully will be attending Abu Dhabi in 2017
