College of Food shortlisted for an award of excellence

The team is in the running to win the ‘Best Use of Digital Media’ category. They submitted an outline of their digital media strategy and the specific needs that it aims to address, highlighting objectives and giving examples of the digital tools being used to provide positive outcomes. These points were evidenced by statistics and engagement on social media, screenshots from the website and video clips. 

The digital content the team creates is filled with students demonstrating the range of skills they can learn and the enrichment activities and competitions they are getting involved in. Also included was a range of success stories from current hospitality students to UCB alumni now working in the industry. 

The award ceremony will be held on Monday 2 November at Novotel London West where 17 Awards for Excellence will be awarded to organisations and employers across the industry. 

Rachael Smith, Hospitality lecturer at UCB, said: “I am thrilled that the hard work done by the College of Food has been recognised by the prestigious Springboard Awards for Excellence. It is an honour to be shortlisted with such an exceptional group of leading professionals from the Hospitality and Tourism industry. 

“Hospitality is a fast-moving and developing industry, which is why digital media is an essential tool in educating our students. Not only does it reflect our ethos of maintaining currency, but it better prepares our students for employment by reflecting the use of technology in industry. By embedding the use of digital media in classrooms, restaurants, marketing and blogging, we keep our students engaged by using platforms that they are familiar with and inspire them.” 

The Springboard Awards for Excellence celebrate and reward inspiring people, organisations and initiatives – those that work hard to elevate the profile of the industry as an employer and, attract and retain talent.
