Career College students receive high praise from the hospitality industry

They hosted the PACE (Professional Association of Catering Educators) South East regional meeting.

The students, some of who are just 14, prepared and served a three-course meal for the guests. Over 30 representatives from catering colleges and training providers across the South East were in attendance.

The dishes prepared included braised beef cobbler, mushroom stroganoff and sticky toffee pudding.

A theme of commercial work-based activity  is central to the Career College ethos. Despite only starting their studies in September, the first year students performed exceptionally well, receiving praise and excellent feedback from the guests.

Principal of Bromley College, Mrs Sam Parrett, welcomed guests to the meeting and explained the background to the establishment of the Career College. She highlighted the tremendous addition the College and restaurant will be to the local community.

PACE (the Professional Association of Catering Educators) is the national association representing Hospitality and Catering education and training providers in the UK. Last week’s event was attended by key speakers from PACE, City and Guilds, and Compass.

Scott Freeman, Head of Bromley College’s Hospitality, Food and Enterprise Career College said:

“Our students’ behaviour and performance at the PACE event was exemplary. They produced food of a high quality and really stepped up to the mark.

“We are proud of what these young people have achieved in such a short time and are excited as to what they will be able to achieve at the end of their courses.

“We have some real talent here and combined with our excellent facilities and employer links, we are in an excellent position to be turning out the very best future workforce for the hospitality and catering industry.”

SE Regional Chair of PACE, Peter Whiffen, said:

“Thank you for arranging this excellent event.  Your students did really well and were a credit to you all, especially with everything that’s going on with the new building project.”

Steve Cannel, Head of Hospitality at South Thames College, added:

“Many thanks to you all for a fabulous day out last week.  You have an impressive offer, which as it develops will provide a centre of excellence in support of the London and South East hospitality and catering markets.

“You should be justifiably proud of the students’ achievements in such a short space of time.”

Students involved in the day were presented with a special cookery book ‘Sante des Chefs’  for their excellent efforts.

Lauren Polson (14) and Maria Dela Cruz (Level 1 students) said that they ‘got a real buzz out of the day’ and now understand what it is like to work in a real Hospitality environment.

Many more events are planned for our Career College students, the next being the launch of the new student-run restaurant.
